Qualcomm acquires Arduino to make AI development more accessible — microcontroller maker's hardware becomes the foundation of mobile tech giant's edge AI stack

Qualcomm has acquired Arduino to enhance accessibility to AI development, with Arduino's hardware forming the foundation of Qualcomm's edge AI stack. The acquisition includes the launch of a new Arduino Uno Q board and Arduino App Lab IDE software. Qualcomm plans to integrate Arduino microcontrollers into its edge-device AI platform. Despite the acquisition, Qualcomm assures that Arduino will maintain its open approach and independent brand. The new Arduino Uno Q, featuring a Qualcomm DragonWing CPU and STM32U585 microcontroller, is priced competitively with Raspberry Pi and aims to work with the new Arduino App Lab IDE.
