Urgency Sensors Enable Reliability as a Service for EVs
A new approach using urgency sensors is helping electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers enhance profitability by adjusting product reliability. This technology, initially commercialized in the 1970s for photocopiers and appliances, is now being adopted by EV makers to offer subscription-based reliability services. Automakers like BMW are experimenting with programmable USC devices to strategically moderate EV reliability, offsetting revenue losses from routine maintenance. These sensors can be adjusted to offer different levels of reliability, with some automakers considering subscription-based Reliability-as-a-Service (RaaS) models for their EV products.
