Supermicro co-founder pleads not guilty to smuggling billions of dollars of Nvidia servers to China — suspected smuggler released on $5 million bond

Super Micro Computer co-founder Yih-Shyan "Wally" Liaw pleaded not guilty to charges of smuggling billions of dollars' worth of Nvidia-powered servers to China. Co-defendant Ting-Wei "Willy" Sun also entered a not-guilty plea. The smuggling scheme involved selling U.S.-assembled servers with Nvidia AI chips to Chinese customers through a Southeast Asian pass-through company. The operation allegedly generated around $2.5 billion in sales since 2024. Liaw has resigned from Super Micro's board, and the company emphasized its compliance program for export control laws.
