New Rowhammer attacks give complete control of machines running Nvidia GPUs
New Rowhammer attacks have been discovered that can give complete control of machines running Nvidia GPUs to malicious users. These attacks exploit memory hardware vulnerabilities, causing bit flips that allow unauthorized access to sensitive data. Over the past decade, Rowhammer attacks have evolved to target various DRAM types and employ new techniques to compromise systems. While GDDR DRAM used with high-performance Nvidia GPUs has been shown to be susceptible to these attacks, the impact so far has been limited to degrading the output of neural networks.
