Dennis Whyte’s fusion quest

Dennis Whyte, a fusion researcher at MIT, faced funding cuts for fusion research but found a new approach using high-temperature superconducting magnets. With his students, they designed a compact fusion reactor called ARC, which showed promising results in achieving net fusion energy. This breakthrough led to the formation of Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), a startup aiming to commercialize fusion energy. CFS raised over $2 billion and is working towards building a commercial fusion energy campus to achieve sustainable fusion energy production by 2030.
