Microsoft adds Shader Execution Reordering (SER) in latest DirectX SDK for more efficient ray tracing — Intel Arc B-series GPUs show 90% performance uplift

Microsoft has integrated Shader Execution Reordering (SER) into the latest DirectX SDK, enhancing ray tracing efficiency. This feature, now part of DXR 1.2, optimizes per-pixel rendering in ray-traced scenes, improving GPU performance by categorizing reflections and light bounces for better parallel execution. Intel Arc B-series GPUs have shown up to a 90% performance increase with this update. The SDK also includes Opacity Micromaps (OMMs) to save processing power by skipping unnecessary shader work on transparent surfaces. Additionally, Shader Model 6.9 enables developers to utilize these features, potentially leading to performance enhancements in games.
