Start-up proposes scaled up AI data center 'active radio cable' connectivity — radio-based interconnections operating at millimeter-wave and terahertz frequencies offer 1.6 TB/s using half the volume of copper

A start-up is proposing a new approach to scale-up AI data center connectivity using radio-based interconnections operating at millimeter-wave and terahertz frequencies. Point2's 'active radio cable' offers 1.6 TB/s using half the volume of copper cables, with lower power consumption and latency. AttoTude is pursuing a similar concept at even higher frequencies, achieving high-speed data transmission over short distances. Both companies use waveguides instead of cables due to the limitations of copper at such high frequencies, with waveguides being a more viable option for terabit/s-class bandwidth interconnects.
