The greenhouse gases we’re not accounting for

Climate scientists are investigating a surge in methane emissions, particularly in the tropics, due to wetter and warmer conditions that promote microbial methane production. These natural emissions are not fully considered in global climate agreements, prompting Spark Climate Solutions to launch a project to assess climate feedback effects. Thawing permafrost, wildfires, and other factors could accelerate global warming beyond current forecasts, emphasizing the need to better understand and account for these feedback mechanisms. Improved research on these complex interactions is crucial for addressing the risks posed by unaccounted greenhouse gas emissions.
