Google Chrome’s new native video and audio lazy loading could make the web faster

Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers are set to introduce native support for video and audio lazy loading, proposed by developer Helmut Januschka. This feature will allow videos and audios to load only when they are visible on the screen, potentially speeding up web browsing, especially on media-heavy pages. The current lazy loading feature in Chrome is limited to images and iframes, but this update will expand it to videos and audios. By using the HTML attribute loading="lazy," developers can optimize resource loading and improve page load performance without relying on JavaScript. The feature has already been implemented in Chromium and is moving towards a broader release in Chrome 148.
