Two manufacturers commit to keep Blu-ray alive after others quit manufacturing — Verbatim and I-O Data extend Blu-ray supply pledge as manufacturers exit the market
Verbatim Japan and I-O Data have expanded their commitment to continue supplying Blu-ray products in Japan, including drive hardware and media, as other manufacturers exit the market. This move follows exits by companies like Sony and Buffalo over the past year. The renewed commitment aims to address the supply issue, with Panasonic being the only remaining Japanese manufacturer of optical drives. The companies recently released the BD Reco external Blu-ray drive, emphasizing the ongoing need for data storage on discs. Despite declining Blu-ray recorder shipments in Japan, Panasonic is working to meet demand for its DMR-ZR1 4K DIGA recorder.
