Community College Professor 3D Prints First Flood-Resistant Concrete Structure
Community College Professor Eric Wooldridge, in response to a major flooding event in Eastern Kentucky, has led an innovative project to 3D print flood-resistant concrete structures. The FloodBuster, designed to withstand flooding, integrates new engineering concepts and materials made possible by 3D printing technology. The project, funded by grants, involves advanced structural design features and specialty anchors for reinforcement. After years of research and testing, the team successfully completed the first 3D print of the structure, showcasing the potential for affordable and resilient housing solutions in flood-prone areas. Future plans include additional projects to address extreme weather challenges and provide innovative housing solutions for communities in need.
