This advancement paves the way for 55TB to 69TB hard drives, doubling the capacity of current models. Leveraging heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology, Seagate plans to implement these high-capacity platters in products by 2030. The company is also developing 4TB to 6TB platters for production in the coming years, with projections for even larger capacities beyond 2031.
