ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handheld to get Auto Super Resolution boost in April — Microsoft touts 30% performance boost thanks to AI-powered image upscaling

Microsoft announced at the Game Developers Conference that the ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handheld will receive a performance boost in April through Auto Super Resolution (Auto SR), providing up to a 30% performance increase with AI-powered image upscaling. Auto SR, previously exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, operates at the OS level and utilizes an NPU on the Ryzen Z2 AI Extreme chip in the device. While Auto SR can enhance frame rates and reduce GPU load, it may introduce latency and is currently supported only on DirectX 11 or 12 games. This move aligns with Microsoft's focus on AI-driven graphics technologies, as seen in its upcoming Project Helix Xbox console powered by a custom AMD SoC with FSR Diamond upscaling tech.
