StorageReview has broken the world record for Pi calculation by reaching 314 trillion digits using a single server over a four-month period. The achievement highlights the importance of storage performance in such calculations. The server used was a Dell PowerEdge R7725 with two AMD Epyc 192-core chips and 1.5 TB of DDR5 memory, along with a storage array consisting of 2.5 petabytes of Micron 6550 Ion SSDs. The setup achieved high read/write performance and efficiency with optimizations like a direct connection to the CPUs' PCIe lanes and a switch to Ubuntu 24.04.2 OS.
