People with blindness can read again after retinal implant and special glasses

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that people with advanced dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) regained the ability to read with the help of a retinal implant and specialized glasses. The PRIMA device, implanted in the eye and paired with augmented reality glasses, transmitted visual information to the brain, resulting in significant visual improvements for 80% of participants. While some patients experienced side effects, the technology represents a breakthrough for those with geographic atrophy. Future iterations of the device aim to enhance visual resolution and expand capabilities to include gray-scale natural images.
