Oops. Cryptographers cancel election results after losing decryption key.

The International Association of Cryptologic Research (IACR) has voided its leadership election results due to the loss of a decryption key necessary to unlock votes stored in the Helios voting system. The system ensures verifiable, confidential, and privacy-preserving voting using cryptography. An official's mistake in losing their private key led to the cancellation of the election results. To prevent future incidents, the IACR will now require only two out of three trustees to hold the necessary key material. The organization has started a new election process that will conclude on December 20.
