In comedy of errors, men accused of wiping gov databases turned to an AI tool

Two contractors previously convicted for hacking into US State Department systems were charged again for attempting to steal and destroy government records after being fired from their jobs. Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter, federal contractors in Washington, DC, used an AI tool to cover their tracks but lacked the knowledge to do so effectively. The brothers deleted databases and documents from multiple government agencies but failed to successfully cover their tracks. They were also found discussing removing incriminating evidence from their homes and wiping their employer-issued laptops after the incident.
