The initial large size was due to HDD optimization, but recent data shows minimal impact on load times for players using mechanical hard drives. The slim version is accessible through a beta update on Steam, maintaining gameplay experience while saving storage space. Progression and purchases will transfer to the new version, with the option to revert to the original if needed.
