Fix damaged art in hours with AI

An MIT graduate student has developed a new AI-powered method for art restoration that can significantly speed up the process. The technique involves printing the restoration on a thin polymer film that can be aligned with a painting and easily removed if needed. By using algorithms to identify areas in need of repair and creating a detailed map for infilling, the student was able to restore a 15th-century oil painting in just 3.5 hours, a process estimated to be 66 times faster than traditional methods. This innovation could provide a new way to repair damaged art that may otherwise remain unseen in storage.
