Bangladesh’s garment-making industry is getting greener

Bangladesh's garment industry is transitioning to greener practices by implementing resource-efficient technologies to reduce waste, conserve water, and enhance resilience against climate impacts. The country now leads in LEED-certified garment factories, with initiatives like the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) saving billions of liters of water annually. While progress has been made, challenges persist, such as low wages and poor working conditions for the sector's 4.4 million workers. Smaller factories may struggle to afford green upgrades, potentially leading to exclusion from markets like the EU, which will soon require addressing human rights and environmental issues in supply chains.
