AMD relaunches $40 dual-core Athlon 3000G CPU with new packaging and cooler — Zen refuses to retire even in 2025

AMD has relaunched its $40 dual-core Athlon 3000G CPU with new packaging and a cooler, maintaining its presence in the market despite its age. The chip, originally released in 2019, features two Zen CPU cores, a 35W TDP, and a 3.5 GHz clock speed. A newer variant introduced in 2023 offers a Dali architecture die but retains similar performance to the original. Despite its age, AMD sees a market for this entry-level CPU, even though it may not be compatible with the latest AM5 motherboards. Intel has also followed a similar strategy with recent releases based on older architectures.
