AMD preps Mega Pod with 256 Instinct MI500 GPUs, Verano CPUs — Leak suggests platform with better scalability than Nvidia will arrive in 2027

AMD is preparing a new rack-scale AI solution for 2027, featuring 256 Instinct MI500 GPUs and 64 EPYC 'Verano' CPUs, offering better scalability than Nvidia's current offerings. The system, dubbed 'MI500 Scale Up MegaPod,' is expected to outperform AMD's 2026 Helios with its increased GPU count and revamped microarchitecture. The architecture spans three linked racks, with each side rack housing 32 compute trays and the central rack dedicated to UALink switches. Liquid cooling will be utilized for both compute and networking trays due to the power-hungry nature of AI GPUs. The MegaPod is set to debut in late 2027, potentially competing with Nvidia's upcoming VR300 NVL576 Kyber machines.
