Amazon unveils 192-core Graviton5 CPU with massive 180 MB L3 cache in tow — ambitious server silicon challenges high-end AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon in the cloud

Amazon Web Services has unveiled the Graviton5, a 192-core CPU with a massive 180 MB L3 cache, designed to compete with AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon processors in its data centers. The processor, fabricated using a 3nm-class process, offers a 25% performance boost over its predecessor and integrates Neoverse V3 cores. The Graviton5 is available in Amazon EC2 M9g instances and promises improved performance for databases, web applications, and machine learning workloads. The CPU features a distributed L3 cache design, faster memory subsystem, increased network and storage bandwidth, and enhanced security measures through the Nitro Isolation Engine. Additional compute-optimized and memory-focused variants are expected to launch in 2026.
