An Amazon Echo owner reported excessive data usage on their Echo Show devices, even when not in use, prompting speculation about potential causes like bugs, updates, or cached video content. Concerns were raised about the device potentially recording audio clips for processing, even without user activation commands. Some users pointed to Amazon Sidewalk as a possible data drain. To monitor and control data usage, users were advised to check device history, turn off Sidewalk, or simply unplug the devices if privacy concerns persist. Amazon later confirmed a bug in select Echo Show devices that caused high data consumption, which has since been resolved.
