A Different Angle on Co-Simulation for Systems

The article discusses a new approach to co-simulation using the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) standard, allowing for the connection of simulators/models to analyze mechatronic and other systems across various disciplines. FMI, created within the Modelica Association, simplifies the exchange of dynamic system models for different simulation systems. The article provides examples of standalone FMUs and tool-coupling FMUs, showcasing applications in mechatronics and control systems. This method enables multi-domain simulations beyond traditional multiphysics applications, appealing to system builders requiring integration of simulators for comprehensive system analysis.
